We’ve updated our Voter Information page where you’ll find important, official information about the upcoming April 2, 2019 consolidated election. With this post I want to go a little further, dig a little deeper, and survey local news coverage, primary resources and other information I could find and bundle around the candidates’ voters in Skokie will see on their ballots.

Local elections are notorious for their low-voter turnouteven though their everyday impact on communities is far higher than other levels of government. The quality of our schools, green spaces, streets (those post-winter potholes!) and libraries, are all impacted by who we vote for in local elections. One of the most frequent reasons citedfor low-turnout in local elections is the lack of information about the candidates, issues and elections on the ballot. Sometimes, as is the case here in Skokie, there is some information to be found but it’s scattered on various media platforms and not always reliable.

Below, I’ve tried to aggregate information about each of the open offices Skokie residents will be voting for between now and April 2nd. I’ve included links to both primary resources, such as “About” pages or meeting minutes, as well as any secondary sources such as local press coverage of the elections where I could find it.
