    Brittany, you are awesome! The lead singer and guitarist of Alabama Shakes does not disappoint in her debut solo album, a moving tribute to her older sister. Her style is glorious and wide-ranging.The creative mixing of jazz, soul, and funk with psychedelic guitar licks evokes emotion from even the most cynical of listeners.     It's been a bad year for country music, but Midland comes to the rescue with this retro throwback to the late '70s country music of Jerry Reed and Don Williams. Mellow, fun, and a great album all the way through, it is one of my favorites of the year. Recommended by Lynnanne.

    2019 by Highwomen (Musical group)

    Inspired by the '80s supergroup Highwaymen, this supergroup of Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby responds to the lack of women's voices on country music radio. Each song speaks to the complexity of being a women in this world. It's a shame that these amazing songs will not get much radio airplay, but as long as talented artists like them exist, country music will survive. Recommended by Lynnanne and Sharon.

    2019 by Martinez, Melanie

    After four years, Melanie Martinez is back with her second storybook album. The songs manage to relate to both her own personal battle with fame and to common worries from kindergarten to high school. "Orange Juice" is by far the most personal track that I think many girls growing up could relate to and empathize with. Recommended by Monica.
