Maker in Residence
We're launching a paid residency program in the Studio and invite artists, makers, and craftspeople to apply for this four-week opportunity to share their artistic skills with the community.
Residency
The selected maker In residence will commit to 10 hours per week for 4 weeks in March 2025 and will receive a $1,000 honorarium. They will have full access to the Studio’s comprehensive suite of tools—including sewing machines, embroidery machines, 3D printers, laser cutters and engravers, vinyl cutters, and a variety of other craft supplies and tools. An additional $800 honorarium will also be provided for personal supplies. The library will retain ownership of works created during the residency, and they will be showcased in the Studio.
Our maker in residence will lead weekly workshops to engage community members of all ages in hands-on experiences to empower creativity and storytelling so that, through making, participants can express their own narratives and foster a deeper sense of connection. An additional $250 honorarium will be paid for each completed workshop.
Application Requirements
The online application opens December 1, 2024 and requires 7-10 examples of completed works. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Submissions will be accepted December 1-31, 2024. All qualified applicants will be reviewed by a committee of library staff. Priority will be given to Skokie residents. Make sure to provide current contact information. The selected maker will be notified in February and will need to visit the library for required training and paperwork.
